Wild Messengers — web design and development project by David Langarica

A ritual-like introduction to a tarot deck, with a clear path from curiosity to preorder.

Wild Messengers is an animal-centered tarot deck returning for a second edition. I designed and built a custom site that lets longtime followers preorder quickly while giving new visitors room to understand the cards, guidebook, and world behind them.

Wild Messengers came to me with a striking visual world already in place: painted animals, cosmic color, and a deck with a devoted first-edition audience. The new site had two jobs. Returning followers needed a direct route to the second edition; someone arriving for the first time needed to understand what made this deck worth spending time with.

The brief called for a digital threshold rather than a conventional product page. I took that seriously, but kept the invitation practical: the deck and preorder action appear immediately, with a second path into the details for anyone who wants to linger.

The live opening screen places the product beside two clear choices: preorder now or explore what is included.

A journey with a clear first step

I shaped the page as a gradual reveal. It starts with the deck and a visible preorder link, then moves through the idea behind the cards, what comes in the box, and the guidebook. The scroll has room for the client's expressive writing and animal artwork, while repeated preorder links give visitors a way forward wherever they decide they have seen enough.

The visual system draws on the supplied artwork. Deep violet backgrounds, watercolor animals, generous type, and measured transitions carry its character through the page. I built the responsive site in Astro, with a separate Shopify checkout path for the live preorder.

The guidebook has its own section, with a product view and a clear look at what readers will find inside.

An invitation to participate

The brief also asked for an interactive moment. I made the five-question “Find Your Wild Messenger” quiz a separate route, so it adds depth without interrupting the preorder journey. Visitors answer prompts about instinct and change, then provide an email address to reveal their animal card. The quiz offers another way into the deck's language before deciding whether to buy.

Room for wonder, room to act

The finished site gives the second edition a home connected to the deck itself. Visitors can preorder from the opening screen, explore the full story, or take the quiz. The atmosphere has room to breathe because each path remains easy to find.
